Nikkol Rot is a Zürich-based portrait photographer. Her site was designed by Pia Fleischmann: an asymmetric, scattered photo layout on a quiet sage background, built to hold a body of portrait work rather than a product grid. Our job was to build it, and to build it in a way she could keep living in.
The build
The layout looks freeform, but nothing on it is hardcoded. We built a custom Laravel backend that lets Nikkol rearrange images, resize them, and restructure the page herself: no developer, no ticket, no waiting. For a photographer, the arrangement of images is part of the work; a static template would have fought that instinct instead of serving it.
The site today
It's currently built around 52 Porträts, a personal project: fifty-two portraits of people close to her, shot chronologically over the course of a year. The scattered grid gives each portrait room to breathe rather than competing in a uniform gallery.
